Bridge The Gap In Your Life

Step 1: Take a few minutes to give each key area of your life a score from 1 to 10, this should include the following:

  • Career
  • Relationship
  • Family
  • Diet
  • Fitness
  • Money
  • Fun/ Hobbies

Don’t spend too much time thinking about your answers, go with your gut and remember this is a starting point, so don’t get disheartened at this stage if your scores are not where you want them to be, this is the point of the exercise.

Step 2: For each of the headings above, write a sentence or two about your current situation. Then I want you to write down in another couple of sentences where you would like your life to be in each of these key areas. If you are not sure, that is not a problem.

“You are responsible for everything in your life”

Step 3: Pick three areas that are most important to you and think about the actions that you can take right now towards where you want to be in those key areas. If you are not sure where you want that part of your life to be, then think about actions you can take to improve that score. For example, I have a client who originally scored “1” for savings/ money as she had no savings. I asked her what is one thing that she could do right now to change this. She set up a savings account (which took minutes) and set up a direct debit from her current account of £20 per week. At the end of the ten week life coaching program, she had £200 in her savings account and she told me that she did not even notice the money coming out of her account and she was just going to keep building the money up.

Step 4: Now you need to come up with your own action plan for the three areas of your life that you want to improve. This should detail 9 things you are going to do, along with target dates for achievement. If you need some help with effective goal setting, then check out this blog post.

Your only limit is you

Step 5: Once you achieve your goals, keep setting yourself new goals. This is the quickest and best way to bridge the gap in your life from where you are right now to where you want to be.

As soon as you start to pursue a dream, your life wakes up and everything has meaning

Step 6: Every month go back to step one and score each key area of your life and monitor your progress.

Most people are put off from making any kind of changes in their life because they believe that they have to make big changes and they can’t be bothered. This is not true. It is all about the small changes you make in your life every day, that will result in bigger changes over a period of time. You can’t expect to go to the gym once and get a perfect body (that would be amazing though!).

Go and tick one of your actions off your list right now and remember, you can do anything you set your mind to!
